I agree with this statement 💯%
I took a class from a leader who expressed that, as leaders, we’re evaluated based on our team. Hence, we need to have good to great team members. It also means we need to promptly address the team members who may not be meeting expectations.
I agree with that sentiment as well. 👍🏾
However, I have two additional points to add.
1️⃣ Caring for team members is essential to Exceptional Leadership.
↳ Team members can have life going on. They may share about what’s going on, or not. That’s totally fine as it’s their business. Our business as leaders is to provide support for our team members when they are dealing with life, while ensuring our other team members also have what they need to deliver. This position doesn’t require an either/or approach. Two things can be true at the same time — Exceptional Leaders can care for team members with a lot going on, as well as the ones still working.
2️⃣ Address directly the team members who are not meeting expectations as soon as possible.
↳ I’ve seen too many people in leadership positions hide behind, or even weaponize, PIPs instead of having candid conversations expeditiously because they are uncomfortable doing so.👎🏾

⭐ Build Strong Relationships
⭐ Address Concerns Directly and Promptly (avoid molehills growing, especially if it’s related to your discomfort)
⭐️ Ensure Team Members Who Continue to Contribute Have What They Need
⭐️ IMPORTANT: Check On Your Team & Colleagues — this time of year can be both joyful and challenging. 🙏🏾
