How do you make decisions?
Do you have a process for making decisions?
More than likely, you have a process.
↳ Ask someone/something — that’s a process
↳ Lean on experience — that’s a process
↳ Listen to intuition — that’s a process
↳ Wing it — that’s a process
The process is important, but it’s not critical.
What’s critical is how you relate to a decision.
For many, relating to a decision looks like a guarantee that it will work out.
NOTE: There are no guarantees.
Decisions are Inputs. Guarantees are Outputs–actually wishful outputs.
They are separate.
Remember that.
When you make a decision and it aligns with your preferences–it doesn’t mean that it was the “right/best” decision.
When you make a decision and it doesn’t align with your preferences–it doesn’t mean that it was the “wrong/worst” decision.
Decision-making is made more challenging, stressful, and nerve-racking when leaders conflate the decision with the desired outcome.
Leaders, strive for a calm presence. Along with giving greater access to the prefrontal cortex, referred to as the brain’s executive center, it keeps the focus on the main thing–the decision.
The outcome will take care of itself.
