I personally love sports and have modeled my leadership style based on my two favorite legendary sports coaches: Pat Summitt and Geno Auriemma.
Here are some of the lessons I learned from them.
🗝️ Create a Winning Culture
↳ Both of these awesome coaches established a winning culture that turned their programs into dynasties by clearly communicating and maintaining high standards, leading with values, celebrating the process, and focusing on consistency.
🗝️ Hire Character and Teach Skills
↳ Coach Summitt recruited for character as much as skill, believing that traits like work ethic, respect, and discipline were the foundation of a winning team.
↳ Coach Auriemma is widely known for prioritizing character over skill when recruiting players.
🗝️ Inspire and Motivate

🗝️ Encourage and Hold Accountable
This is a lesson I keep close at hand. I believe in encouraging and celebrating my teams for who they are, their effort, along with the outcomes. Additionally, I hold them accountable for modeling the traits of their role, e.g., Staff Engineer/Team Lead, the level of effort put forth, and outcomes’ quality. As a result, my teams know they have a leader who will support them as well as provide constructive feedback.
