I typically avoid universals like, always, never, etc. However, in this case, it is what it is. Ungrateful leaders are never great.
I’m certain many of you have heard of the benefits of gratitude, so I’m going to skip that in this post and focus on the signs of Ungrateful Leaders.
Here’s a starter list:
⛔️ Ungrateful Leaders Repel Teams
Unfortunately, too many team members feel underappreciated.
Effective Leaders prioritize the well-being of their teams by making them feel valued, appreciated, and respected, as well as building trust and strong relationships.
Ungrateful Leaders forget to realize that their teams, at their core, are volunteers. In other words, team members could work somewhere else, taking their knowledge and contributions with them.
⛔️ Ungrateful Leaders Are Negative
A lack of gratitude negatively impacts a leader’s attitude.
Ungrateful leaders demonstrate the following traits:
↳ Complain
↳ Rarely Satisfied
↳ Suspicious
↳ Entitled
↳ Victim
↳ Lack Empathy
↳ Resentful
↳ Micromanage
↳ Bully
⛔️ Ungrateful Leaders Lack Accountability
Effective Leaders are consistently accountable for their actions and to their teams.
Ungrateful Leaders dodge admitting missteps, mistakes, and misconduct.
⛔️ Ungrateful Leaders Hinder Career Development
Effective Leaders focus on their team’s career development by providing guidance and opportunities for growth.
Ungrateful Leaders rarely provide adequate resources and training or a succession plan.
⛔️ Ungrateful Leaders Miss Opportunities
Ungrateful Leaders tend to translate what hasn’t happened into what can’t happen, what won’t happen, and what will never happen.
Be mindful, as what a leader thinks determines what happens.
Ungrateful Leaders not only harm their teams and organization, but they also harm themselves ultimately.
