🚫 Finish Strong βœ… Finish Clear

As the end of the year nears, you may hear the phrase, “Finish Strong,” a lot.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with the phrase. However, it’s missing a key aspect–finish what?

The phrase assumes you know what to finish.

Do you?

If your GetTo and WantTo lists are as long as mine, that phrase may feel overwhelming and stressful, if not impossible.

Here’s how to resolve those feelings.
Step 0.
↳ Identify the item(s) that are most important to you.

I’d recommend having three buckets.

  1. Proud πŸͺ£
Make sure you have one item that makes you feel proud of yourself.

Even as time passes, it’s still meaningful to hear someone say they’re proud of you–especially if that someone is you.

  1. Learn πŸͺ£
Have an item that stretches you–learn something new, build something, etc.

Learning benefits your well-being beyond the topic. It creates new pathways, which in turn opens you up to seeing things in new ways. New information, new perspective.

  1. FUN πŸͺ£
Most importantly, ensure you have one item that makes you smile the biggest grin–that motorcycle ride, coffee (virtual or in-person) with a friend, or building that LEGO set.

Additionally, making time for fun helps to keep the stresses, sadness, and anxiety that come with the end of year (project deadlines, holidays, etc.) at bay or at least helps to right-size them–I hope. πŸ™πŸΎ

Step 1. Finish Strong πŸ’ͺ🏾 (with a smile on your face 😁)
Do the things on your list. Your list is important. You deserve to feel proud of yourself, learn something cool, and have FUN!!

Step 2. Reflect (for Clarity)
Reflect on the items in your list. How did achieving them land? How might you implement this practice year-round?

πŸ“š Exceptional Leader Assignment: Make time to clarify WHAT you’d like to accomplish before the year wraps up. Also, consider making this a group project with your team.
